National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb acquires work by Kristian Kožul

The National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb has acquired Kristian Kožul’s work Baba Yaga/Monarchy.

Kristian Kožul’s interdisciplinary practice explores the visual language of power, the dynamics of desire, and the symbolic architecture of contemporary mythologies. Drawing on strategies of Baroque theatricality, forensic aesthetics, and speculative fiction, Kožul constructs fantastical yet critically charged works that reflect the contradictions of the present moment. His sculptural objects and installations — often evoking themes of security, luxury, and ideological iconography — function as hyper-stylized and fetishized markers of collective anxieties and aspirations.

The work Baba Yaga/Monarchy (mixed media, 140 × 90 × 3 cm, 2024) is currently on view at Oktogon, NMMU, as part of the exhibition Acquisitions/Donations 2020–2025, open until September 14.
