Join artist Bojan Šumonja in conversation with the art photographer and friend Hassan Abdelghani on Wednesday, May 7, at 7 PM, as they explore his work and themes from the current exhibition Tulip Hysteria.

ABOUT THE PANELISTS

Bojan Šumonja (1960, Pula, Croatia) graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia in Italy. His work as a painter has developed within the realm of neoexpressionist aesthetics, exploring the transformation of traditional figures and landscapes, along with references to mythology and history painting, and the influence of the poetics of comics and film. His works form part of the permanent exhibitions and collections of the National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Istria in Pula, the Rovinj City Museum, the Piran Coastal Galleries, and numerous other public and private collections. He is a co-founder and artistic director of the Poola Gallery in Pula, and a member of the informal art group One Dollar Bill, with Marko Jakše and Pierre Tol.

Hassan Abdelghani (1965, Osijek, Croatia) is a visual artist and photographer, currently director of Makina Gallery in Pula. Raised in Cairo, he completed his photography school in Copenhagen in 1990, where he later founded the private Global Fotoskole. Over the course of his career, he has held solo and group exhibitions across Denmark, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Austria, Slovenia, Thailand, Turkey, Romania, Germany, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, while also curating over 30 exhibitions and acting as artistic director of the “Vrata starog grada” gallery in Osijek. Since 2015, he has led the Makina Photo Academy in Pula and lectures at the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek. His works are part of the collections of the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Zagreb and several private collections. He is the recipient of the Rovinj Photo Days Award (2012) for best artistic concept and the author of three photo monographs: From a Distance (2012), Eufrazijana (2014), and Ćer materina (2018). He lives and works in Pula.
