Sara Birns
Born in 1992, using old master oil painting techniques, Sara Birns creates surrealistic portraits where physical features are tampered and morphed. Cues we use to recognize a person have been melted apart, then reassembled through Birns’ maniacal attention to detail, returning veins, pores and folds of skin back to form, into an amalgamation of the physical, manifesting inner emotions anew. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and internationally, both in solo and group shows. Recent solo shows include; The Magical Mystery Tour, Cassina Projects Gallery at CAN, Ibiza; It Takes Hard Work to Get to Heaven, Matt Carey-Williams, London; Dissolve and Come Back, Cassina Projects Gallery, Milan; Sucked Into My Vortex, Chalk Horse Gallery, Sydney; Explorers of the Garden Planet, Richard Heller Gallery, Santa Monica and Blips in Matter, PostmastersROMA, Rome. She has also recently participated in group exhibitions such as; Bump & Bumps on Paper, Matt Carey-Williams, London; Cabbages in Contemporary, Tim Bengel, Stuttgart; Dreams and Reflections, Richard Heller Gallery, Santa Monica; Fight Club, Better Go South, Berlin; Hajimemashite!, Bridge Mogura Gallery, Tokyo and Girl Talk, Palazzo Monti, Brescia. Birns’ work is part of important permanent collections, such as the Beth Rudin DeWoody Collection and The Christine & Andy Hall Collection.
